Riverstone has an elementary school inside the community. The story behind the name of Anne Sullivan Elementary is worth knowing before you tour a home here.

Quick answer: Anne Sullivan Elementary sits at 17828 Winding Waters Lane, inside the Riverstone community in Fort Bend ISD. It opened in August 2016 and serves roughly 1,050 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The campus is named for Anne McCormick Sullivan, a Houston firefighter and Dulles High School graduate who died in the line of duty in 2013.
The Story Behind the Anne Sullivan Elementary Name
Anne McCormick Sullivan grew up in Fort Bend County and graduated from Dulles High School. She became a Houston firefighter.
In May 2013 she died fighting a fire in southwest Houston. Three of her Houston Fire Department colleagues died in the same fire. It remains one of the worst days in the department’s history.
When Fort Bend ISD broke ground on this campus in July 2015, it was the first project of the 2014 bond program. The Houston Fire Department Pipes and Drums and Honor Guard took part in the ceremony, and Sullivan’s family attended.
The Anne Sullivan Elementary mascot is the Dalmatian. Anyone who knows firehouses will recognize why.
Donna Whisonant, the founding principal, spoke at that groundbreaking. She promised to share Anne’s story with every student and staff member who walked through the doors, and she talked about the bravery it took to go into those flames.
Anne Sullivan Elementary Today

Academically it performs well. Anne Sullivan Elementary holds a TEA rating of A, with distinctions in reading and language arts, mathematics, science, and postsecondary readiness. Children at Risk has given it an A+ in its statewide rankings.

Why This Matters for Buyers
An on-site elementary school changes daily life. Drop-off is short and many kids can walk or bike. The campus becomes a community anchor rather than somewhere you drive to.
That said, living inside Riverstone does not automatically zone a home to Anne Sullivan Elementary. Riverstone spans two city jurisdictions and has been rezoned more than once. Some sections feed other Fort Bend ISD elementaries.
I verify zoning for the exact address every time, using the district’s official school zone locator. If a specific campus matters to your family, confirm it before you write an offer. My guide to Fort Bend ISD rezoning explains how boundaries shift and what to watch for.
Nearby Communities and Schools
Riverstone borders Sienna, which has its own on-site campuses. My Schools in Sienna TX guide covers every Fort Bend ISD campus serving that community. It includes the story behind Alyssa Ferguson Elementary, which has a lot in common with this one.
