Sienna keeps adding to itself. The Sienna Oaks Amenity Center will open in the Heritage Park section in 2026. Right next to it sits a school with one of the more meaningful names in Fort Bend ISD: Alyssa Ferguson Elementary.
If you’re researching schools while moving to Sienna, it’s worth knowing more than test scores and walk zones. This one has a story behind it that says something about the community it sits in.

Where Alyssa Ferguson Elementary Sits in Sienna
Alyssa Ferguson Elementary sits at 1300 Heritage Park Drive in Missouri City, in the Heritage Park section of Sienna, just down the road from the new Sienna Oaks Amenity Center. It’s a two-story campus of more than 127,000 square feet. It welcomed its first students in August 2023 as Fort Bend ISD’s 54th elementary school, and the newest of Sienna’s six on-site elementary schools.
The mascot is the firefly, chosen because fireflies are small but still manage to put off a real light. That detail matters more once you know who the school is named for.
The Story Behind the Name
Before Alyssa Ferguson Elementary carried her name, Alyssa Ferguson was a Sienna kid working through something no 12-year-old should have to face. She moved to Fort Bend County with her family in 2013 and enrolled at Baines Middle School. At 12, doctors diagnosed her with medulloblastoma, a fast-growing brain tumor. Her family later learned she also had Li-Fraumeni Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that raises the risk of developing cancer.
What stood out to the people who knew her wasn’t the diagnosis. It was how she responded to it. When the Make-A-Wish Foundation asked what she wanted, Alyssa said:
“The only reason I got this wish is because I got sick. I should use it to help someone. I didn’t earn it.”
She used her wish to fund a water well in a village in Zimbabwe without access to clean water. That single decision grew into the Alyssa Ferguson World Changers Fund. Her fund has built eight wells so far because of the mission she started.
Alyssa passed away in January 2017, as a freshman at Ridge Point High School, at age 15. Ferguson Elementary opened five years later, carrying her name forward.
In April 2022, Fort Bend ISD’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name the district’s new elementary school after her. The vote followed a community nomination process. Board President Dave Rosenthal put it this way: her life gave students a real example of what it looks like to serve others. Alyssa Ferguson Elementary remains the only FBISD school named after a former student. Most others honor a board member, educator, or historical figure instead.
Why It’s Worth Knowing If You’re Looking at Sienna
Schools are usually the first thing families ask about when they start looking at Sienna, and for good reason. Six elementary schools now sit right inside the community, along with middle and high schools, all part of Fort Bend ISD. Walkways under Sienna Parkway let a lot of kids walk or bike to campus. The level of parent involvement here shows up in almost every school review you’ll read.
Alyssa Ferguson Elementary adds something older campuses don’t have: a name with a real story behind it. Families zoned to Heritage Park aren’t just getting a newer building. They’re getting a school shaped by that story, where the values on the wall came from somewhere real.
